Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Database Administrator (DBA) to join our dynamic team in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. This is a critical role responsible for managing, maintaining, and optimizing enterprise-level database environments to ensure high performance, availability, and security. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with Oracle or SQL Server databases and will be expected to provide expert-level support to business applications and users. This is a three-month contract position, with an immediate start date of August 15th, and will be managed through a third-party payroll provider.

Key Responsibilities

The Database Administrator will play a pivotal role in ensuring the reliability, efficiency, and security of our database infrastructure. Your core responsibilities will include:

  • Database Installation and Configuration: Install, configure, and maintain robust database environments to meet organizational requirements, ensuring optimal performance and scalability.
  • Performance Monitoring and Tuning: Proactively monitor database performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement tuning strategies to enhance efficiency and responsiveness.
  • Backup, Recovery, and Disaster Management: Develop and execute comprehensive backup and recovery procedures to safeguard critical data. Ensure rapid disaster recovery capabilities to minimize downtime and data loss.
  • Security and Access Management: Implement and enforce robust security measures, including user access controls, permissions, and encryption, to protect sensitive data and comply with organizational and regulatory standards.
  • Patch Management and Upgrades: Apply database patches, upgrades, and maintenance activities to ensure systems are current, secure, and operating at peak performance.
  • Health and Availability Monitoring: Continuously monitor database health, availability, and storage utilization to preemptively address potential issues and maintain uninterrupted operations.
  • Troubleshooting and Issue Resolution: Diagnose and resolve database-related issues promptly to minimize impact on business operations and user productivity.
  • Application and Migration Support: Provide expert support for application deployments, migrations, and database changes, ensuring seamless integration and minimal disruption.
  • Documentation and Compliance: Create and maintain comprehensive database documentation, operational procedures, and compliance reports to meet organizational and regulatory requirements.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with application developers, infrastructure teams, and support staff to align database strategies with business objectives and technical requirements.

Required Skills and Qualifications

To excel in this role, candidates must possess the following skills and experience:

  • Database Administration Expertise: Proven hands-on experience in database administration, with a strong focus on Oracle or Microsoft SQL Server environments.
  • Backup and Recovery Proficiency: In-depth knowledge of database backup strategies, recovery procedures, and disaster recovery planning.
  • Performance Tuning and Optimization: Expertise in performance tuning, query optimization, and indexing strategies to enhance database efficiency.
  • Security and Compliance: Solid understanding of database security best practices, including user access management, encryption, and compliance with organizational and regulatory standards.
  • Operating System Familiarity: Experience working with Linux/Unix and Windows server environments to support database operations.
  • Technical Proficiency: Strong working knowledge of SQL, scripting languages, and automation tools to streamline database management tasks.
  • Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: Exceptional analytical abilities and a methodical approach to troubleshooting and resolving complex database issues.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment and liaise with stakeholders across the organization.

Work Environment and Logistics

This is a three-month contract position based in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The successful candidate will be onboarded on August 15th and will be compensated through a third-party payroll provider. The role requires immediate availability and a commitment to delivering high-quality results within the specified contract period.
