Senior Mechanical Engineer

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the design, review, and supervision of mechanical systems for complex construction and infrastructure projects. The successful candidate will bring a robust technical background in HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and building services, ensuring that all mechanical systems meet stringent project specifications, industry standards, and safety regulations. This role demands a strategic thinker with the ability to oversee end-to-end mechanical engineering processes, from initial design to final commissioning, while providing mentorship to junior engineers and collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.

Key Responsibilities

The Senior Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for the following core duties and responsibilities:

• Design Leadership: Lead the mechanical engineering design process, including HVAC, plumbing, drainage, and fire protection systems, ensuring alignment with project objectives and client requirements.
• Technical Documentation: Prepare, review, and approve mechanical system designs, drawings, specifications, and technical reports with meticulous attention to detail.
• Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration: Coordinate mechanical designs with other engineering disciplines, architectural teams, and stakeholders to ensure seamless integration and functionality of all systems.
• Compliance and Standards: Conduct design reviews, value engineering, and feasibility studies to optimize system performance while ensuring compliance with relevant international and local codes and standards, such as ASHRAE, NFPA, SMACNA, and ISO.
• Project Oversight: Provide technical oversight and support during procurement, installation, testing, and commissioning phases to ensure adherence to design intent and project timelines.
• Submittal Review: Evaluate submittals, shop drawings, and material approvals to verify compliance with design specifications and regulatory requirements.
• Site Inspections: Conduct regular site visits and inspections to validate the proper execution of mechanical works, addressing any discrepancies or challenges promptly.
• Mentorship and Leadership: Provide guidance, mentorship, and technical support to junior engineers and team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional growth.
• Project Planning Support: Contribute to project planning, scheduling, and resource allocation from a mechanical engineering perspective, ensuring efficient and cost-effective project execution.

Qualifications and Skills

To qualify for this role, candidates must meet the following educational and professional requirements:

• Education: A Bachelor’s Degree (BSc) in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized university, with a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience. A Master’s Degree (MSc) in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized university, with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, is highly desirable.
• Technical Expertise: In-depth knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and mechanical systems design, with a proven track record of delivering high-quality engineering solutions.
• Industry Standards: Familiarity with international standards and codes, including ASHRAE, NFPA, SMACNA, and ISO, and the ability to apply them effectively in project design and execution.
• Software Proficiency: Proficiency in industry-leading engineering software such as AutoCAD, Revit, HAP, Elite, or equivalent tools to streamline design and analysis processes.
• Sustainability Focus: A solid understanding of sustainable design principles and energy efficiency strategies to enhance project performance and compliance with green building standards.
• Soft Skills: Exceptional communication, coordination, and leadership skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively within multi-disciplinary teams. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to address complex engineering challenges.
