Field Service Engineer

Position Overview

Alcon, a global leader in eye care innovation, is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Field Service Engineer to join our team in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. In this critical role, you will be responsible for providing exceptional on-site technical support, maintenance, and repair services for our advanced ophthalmic equipment. Your expertise will ensure optimal performance, reliability, and uptime of our medical devices, directly contributing to the delivery of high-quality eye care solutions to healthcare professionals and patients alike.

Key Responsibilities

• Technical Support and Maintenance: Perform installation, calibration, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting of Alcon’s ophthalmic equipment, including but not limited to phacoemulsification systems, vitrectomy machines, and diagnostic devices. Ensure all equipment operates within manufacturer specifications and regulatory standards.
• Customer Training and Education: Conduct comprehensive training sessions for healthcare staff on the proper use, operation, and maintenance of Alcon’s equipment. Develop and deliver customized training programs to enhance user proficiency and minimize operational errors.
• Service Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate and detailed service records, including work orders, service reports, and equipment history. Submit timely reports to Alcon’s management and customers, ensuring transparency and accountability in all service activities.
• Compliance and Safety: Adhere to all local and international regulatory requirements, including ISO, FDA, and CE standards, as well as Alcon’s internal policies. Prioritize safety protocols during all service activities to mitigate risks and ensure a secure working environment.
• Customer Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with healthcare facilities, including hospitals, clinics, and surgical centers. Act as a trusted technical advisor, addressing customer concerns promptly and professionally to foster long-term partnerships.
• Technical Troubleshooting and Problem Resolution: Diagnose complex equipment issues, identify root causes, and implement effective solutions to minimize downtime. Collaborate with Alcon’s technical teams and suppliers to resolve challenging technical problems efficiently.
• Inventory and Logistics Management: Manage spare parts inventory, ensuring the availability of critical components for timely repairs. Coordinate with Alcon’s supply chain team to procure necessary materials and equipment.

Qualifications and Skills

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field. A relevant diploma or certification in medical equipment technology will be considered an advantage.
• Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of hands-on experience in the field service engineering domain, preferably within the medical device or healthcare industry. Experience with ophthalmic equipment is highly desirable.
• Technical Proficiency: In-depth knowledge of medical equipment systems, including electronic, mechanical, and software components. Familiarity with diagnostic tools, test equipment, and calibration procedures is essential.
• Certifications: Valid certifications in medical equipment repair, such as CBET (Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician) or equivalent, are preferred. Additional certifications in specific Alcon equipment will be a significant plus.
• Soft Skills: Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining a high level of professionalism and customer service.
• Language Proficiency: Fluency in both English and Arabic is required. Additional language skills are a valuable asset.
• Travel Requirements: This role involves frequent travel within the Jeddah region and occasional travel to other parts of Saudi Arabia. A valid driver’s license and willingness to travel are mandatory.
