The Role
We are seeking a dedicated Health and Safety Executive to join the dynamic team at Jumeirah The Red Sea. This pivotal role will play a critical part in maintaining and enhancing the highest standards of health, safety, and environmental (HSE) compliance across our resort operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring a safe and compliant working environment while fostering a culture of proactive risk management and continuous improvement. Key Responsibilities
- HSE Inspections and Compliance: Conduct routine health, safety, and environmental inspections across all operational areas of the resort. Document observations meticulously, follow up on identified issues, and ensure timely closure of corrective actions to maintain compliance with regulatory and internal standards.
- Risk Management: Support departments in conducting workplace risk assessments and implementing effective control measures to mitigate health and safety risks. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify potential hazards and develop proactive solutions.
- Incident Investigation: Assist in the thorough investigation of incidents, accidents, near misses, unsafe acts, and unsafe conditions. This includes reporting, conducting root cause analyses, and ensuring the implementation of corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Contractor and Third-Party Safety: Monitor contractor and third-party activities to ensure full compliance with HSE requirements, permit-to-work procedures, and safe working practices. Verify that all external personnel adhere to established safety protocols.
- Emergency Preparedness: Support the development and execution of emergency preparedness initiatives, including evacuation drills, emergency response exercises, equipment inspections, and departmental readiness reviews. Ensure that all safety equipment and procedures are up-to-date and functional.
- Policy and Procedure Implementation: Assist in the implementation and continuous review of HSE policies, procedures, standard operating procedures (SOPs), risk assessments, and incident management processes. Ensure alignment with industry best practices and regulatory requirements.
- Environmental Compliance: Monitor environmental compliance activities, including waste management, chemical storage, spill prevention, environmental records, and regulatory documentation. Ensure adherence to environmental regulations and sustainability initiatives.
- Beach and Waterfront Safety: Support compliance with beach and waterfront safety standards by reviewing safety signage, emergency access routes, rescue and first aid equipment readiness, incident reporting procedures, and emergency response requirements. Maintain a vigilant oversight of safety measures in high-risk areas.
- Audit and Inspection Support: Participate in internal audits, regulatory inspections, and compliance assessments related to health, safety, environmental, and operational readiness. Provide support to ensure all findings are addressed promptly and effectively.
- Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate and up-to-date HSE documentation, including inspection reports, incident reports, risk assessments, training records, and compliance records. Ensure all records are readily accessible and compliant with regulatory standards.
- Training and Awareness: Deliver safety inductions, toolbox talks, and awareness sessions for colleagues, contractors, and third-party personnel. Foster a culture of safety awareness and ensure all personnel are informed of their roles and responsibilities in maintaining a safe work environment.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with Engineering, Security, Housekeeping, Food & Beverage, Human Resources, Recreation, and other operational departments to address HSE and compliance matters. Promote a collaborative approach to safety and risk management across all functions.
- Pre-Opening Support: Contribute to pre-opening readiness activities, including site walkdowns, departmental inspections, operational testing, and tracking of corrective actions. Ensure that all safety measures are in place before the resort becomes operational.
Your Profile
To excel in this role, you will bring a blend of academic qualifications, professional experience, and a commitment to excellence in health and safety management. The ideal candidate will possess the following attributes and qualifications:
- Education: Hold a Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Health, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
- Certifications: Possess a NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC) or an equivalent, internationally recognized health and safety qualification.
- Experience: Bring a minimum of 2–3 years of hands-on experience in Health and Safety, preferably within hotels, resorts, hospitality, facilities management, construction, or similar operational environments.
- Technical Skills: Demonstrate practical experience in HSE inspections, risk assessments, incident investigations, contractor safety management, emergency preparedness, and compliance monitoring.
- Environmental Knowledge: Have a solid understanding of environmental compliance requirements, including waste management, chemical management, spill prevention, and regulatory documentation.
- Communication: Exhibit proficiency in spoken and written English, with the ability to articulate complex safety concepts clearly and effectively to diverse audiences.
- Industry Experience: Previous experience in hospitality, resort, island, beach, marine, or pre-opening environments is highly desirable.
