Network Operations Center Engineer

Role Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Network Operations Center (NOC) Engineer specializing in Level 2 and Level 3 support to join our dynamic team. In this critical role, you will be responsible for the advanced monitoring, troubleshooting, and resolution of complex network infrastructure issues, ensuring seamless operations, high availability, and strict adherence to Service Level Agreements (SLAs). Your expertise will be pivotal in maintaining the stability and performance of our enterprise network environment.

Key Responsibilities

The NOC Engineer will serve as a technical escalation point, providing expert-level support for network-related incidents and outages. Your core responsibilities will include:

• Advanced Network Monitoring: Utilize state-of-the-art Network Management System (NMS) tools to proactively monitor network performance, detect anomalies, and initiate corrective actions to prevent service disruptions.
• Troubleshooting and Incident Resolution: Perform in-depth Level 2 and Level 3 troubleshooting for routing, switching, and Wide Area Network (WAN) issues, including hardware failures, configuration errors, and connectivity problems. Diagnose root causes and implement effective solutions to restore services promptly.
• Escalation Management: Serve as the primary point of contact for escalated tickets, conducting thorough root cause analysis (RCA) to identify underlying issues and prevent recurrence. Collaborate with senior engineers and leadership to develop and implement corrective strategies.
• Network Device Configuration and Support: Configure, maintain, and support critical network infrastructure components, including routers, switches, firewalls, and Virtual Private Networks (VPNs). Ensure devices are optimized for performance, security, and compliance with organizational standards.
• Change Management and Maintenance: Execute change requests, patching, and routine maintenance activities in alignment with established IT governance policies. Coordinate with cross-functional teams to minimize operational risks and ensure smooth implementation of network updates.
• Vendor and Internal Collaboration: Liaise with external vendors, third-party service providers, and internal stakeholders to resolve complex network issues, obtain technical support, and facilitate timely issue resolution. Act as a liaison to ensure clear communication and alignment across teams.
• Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation, including network diagrams, incident logs, and performance reports. Generate detailed reports on network health, incidents, and resolution metrics to support continuous improvement initiatives.
• Performance Optimization: Identify opportunities for network performance enhancement, capacity planning, and infrastructure improvements. Propose and implement solutions to optimize network efficiency, reliability, and scalability.

Qualifications and Experience

To excel in this role, candidates must possess:

• Minimum of 5–8 years of hands-on experience in network operations, with a strong focus on Level 2 and Level 3 support.
• Proven expertise in troubleshooting routing protocols (e.g., OSPF, BGP), switching technologies (e.g., VLANs, STP), and WAN solutions.
• In-depth knowledge of network security principles and experience with firewalls, VPNs, and intrusion detection/prevention systems.
• Proficiency in configuring and managing network devices from leading vendors such as Cisco, Juniper, or Palo Alto.
• Experience with NMS tools (e.g., SolarWinds, PRTG, Nagios) and network monitoring best practices.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to diagnose complex network issues under pressure.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
• Relevant certifications such as CCNP, JNCIA, or equivalent are highly desirable.
