Position Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Seclusion Manager to oversee and manage our seclusion operations with a focus on safety, compliance, and operational excellence. In this critical role, you will be responsible for ensuring that all seclusion activities adhere to regulatory standards, organizational policies, and best practices in mental health and behavioral care. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, a deep understanding of seclusion protocols, and a commitment to fostering a secure and therapeutic environment for both staff and clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operational Oversight: Manage day-to-day seclusion operations, including monitoring, documentation, and reporting to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. Implement and maintain policies and procedures that align with industry standards and organizational goals.
  • Staff Leadership and Development: Lead, mentor, and train a team of seclusion specialists and support staff. Foster a culture of accountability, professionalism, and continuous improvement through regular performance evaluations, coaching, and development programs.
  • Risk Management and Safety: Identify potential risks and hazards within seclusion environments and implement proactive measures to mitigate them. Ensure that all safety protocols are followed, and emergency response plans are up-to-date and effectively communicated to staff.
  • Compliance and Auditing: Conduct regular audits and inspections to verify adherence to seclusion guidelines, including those set by regulatory bodies such as The Joint Commission, CMS, and state health departments. Prepare and submit required reports to internal and external stakeholders in a timely manner.
  • Client-Centered Care: Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including psychiatrists, nurses, social workers, and therapists, to develop and implement individualized care plans for clients in seclusion. Ensure that seclusion is used as a last resort and that all interventions are therapeutic and non-punitive.
  • Technology and Systems Management: Oversee the implementation and maintenance of electronic health records (EHR) and seclusion monitoring systems. Ensure that all data is accurately recorded, stored, and accessible for review and analysis.
  • Communication and Reporting: Serve as a liaison between the seclusion team, senior management, and regulatory agencies. Provide clear, concise, and accurate reporting on seclusion activities, incidents, and outcomes to support data-driven decision-making.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or a related field. A Master’s degree in a relevant discipline is preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in a behavioral health, psychiatric, or correctional setting, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role. Direct experience with seclusion and restraint practices is highly desirable.
  • Certifications: Certification in Crisis Prevention and Intervention (e.g., CPI, PMAB) or equivalent is required. Additional certifications in healthcare management or behavioral health are a plus.
  • Skills: Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a keen attention to detail. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and EHR systems. Knowledge of regulatory compliance and accreditation standards.
  • Personal Attributes: Demonstrated commitment to ethical practice, patient rights, and a trauma-informed approach. Ability to remain calm under pressure and make sound decisions in high-stress situations.
