Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Telecommunications Engineer to join our dynamic team. In this critical role, you will be responsible for the design, installation, maintenance, and optimization of advanced telecommunications infrastructure within commercial and industrial facilities. Your expertise will ensure seamless connectivity, robust network performance, and compliance with industry standards and organizational requirements. This position demands a blend of technical proficiency, problem-solving acumen, and exceptional communication skills to support both onsite operations and remote stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
The Telecommunications Engineer will play a pivotal role in maintaining and enhancing our telecommunications systems. Your core responsibilities will include:
- System Installation and Configuration: Install, configure, test, and maintain structured cabling systems, including Cat5e, Cat6, and Cat6A, as well as fiber termination and patching. Ensure the proper setup of data/telecom networks, in-building switching and routing components, and Wi-Fi access points with related controllers.
- VoIP and Network Support: Provide technical support for VoIP systems, including PBX/IP phones and SIP trunk configurations. Troubleshoot connectivity issues across WAN, LAN, in-building networks, Wi-Fi coverage, and call/audio quality to minimize downtime and enhance user experience.
- Security and Surveillance Integration: Assist in the installation and maintenance of CCTV/IP network components, where applicable, to support facility security protocols.
- Preventive Maintenance and Inspections: Conduct regular preventive maintenance and inspections of telecom rooms, cabinets, and cabling pathways to identify potential issues before they escalate. Maintain an organized inventory of spare parts and track service and repair history for all telecom equipment.
- Stakeholder Coordination: Collaborate with Internet Service Providers (ISPs), service providers, and internal stakeholders to facilitate service activations, modifications, and escalations. Serve as a liaison to ensure alignment with organizational goals and client expectations.
- Documentation and Compliance: Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation, including as-built drawings, diagrams, labeling standards, cable maps, configuration backups, change logs, service reports, checklists, and maintenance records. Ensure all installations comply with safety, fire/life-safety, and cabling standards mandated by the company, landlord, or client.
- Capacity Management and Upgrades: Assist with capacity upgrades, such as adding access points, upgrading switches, expanding patch panels, and fiber infrastructure, to support evolving business needs.
- Audit Support and SLA Compliance: Support internal audits and ensure adherence to Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and Service Level Requirements (SLRs) to maintain high operational standards.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications, Computer Networking, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Minimum of two years of hands-on experience supporting telecom networks and structured cabling in commercial or industrial facilities.
- Proven expertise in structured cabling installation and testing, including the use of cable testers.
- Solid understanding of basic IP networking concepts, such as VLANs, DHCP, DNS, and routing fundamentals.
- Proficiency in troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks, including coverage analysis and channel planning.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and follow structured work instructions with precision.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with VoIP/PBX systems and SIP troubleshooting.
- Familiarity with network monitoring tools and basic performance testing methodologies.
- Exposure to industry-leading vendors such as Cisco, Meraki, Ubiquiti, Fortinet, Ruckus, or Huawei (please specify vendor preferences if applicable).
- Relevant professional certifications, including CCNA, Network+, or vendor-specific Wi-Fi and cabling certifications.
