Key Responsibilities

The Shift Engineer will play a critical role in overseeing the maintenance and operation of all engineering systems during assigned shifts. Your core responsibilities will include:

• System Maintenance and Repairs: Conduct regular inspections, diagnose issues, and perform timely repairs on HVAC systems, electrical systems, plumbing, and other critical infrastructure to minimize downtime and ensure uninterrupted service.
• Preventive Maintenance: Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules to proactively address potential issues, reduce equipment failures, and extend the lifespan of assets. This includes coordinating with the maintenance team to execute planned maintenance activities.
• Emergency Response: Serve as the first point of contact during emergency situations, such as power outages, water leaks, or equipment malfunctions. Provide immediate solutions to restore normal operations while adhering to safety protocols and Marriott’s standards.
• Compliance and Safety: Ensure all engineering activities comply with local regulations, Marriott’s safety policies, and industry standards. Conduct risk assessments, implement corrective actions, and maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, and maintenance activities.
• Team Leadership and Collaboration: Lead and mentor a team of technicians and engineers, fostering a culture of accountability, professionalism, and continuous improvement. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including housekeeping, front desk, and management, to address operational challenges and enhance guest experiences.
• Guest Experience Enhancement: Address guest concerns related to engineering issues promptly and professionally. Work closely with the guest services team to resolve complaints and ensure a comfortable, safe, and enjoyable stay for all visitors.

Qualifications and Skills

To excel in this role, candidates must meet the following requirements:

• Education and Experience: A bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering, or a related field, is preferred. Alternatively, a diploma in engineering with at least 5 years of hands-on experience in a similar role within the hospitality or facilities management sector is required.
• Technical Proficiency: In-depth knowledge of HVAC systems, electrical distribution, plumbing, fire safety systems, and building automation systems (BAS). Familiarity with energy management systems and sustainable practices is a plus.
• Certifications: Valid certifications in relevant engineering disciplines, such as Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional (CMRP) or Certified Energy Manager (CEM), are highly desirable.
• Leadership and Communication: Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage teams, delegate tasks, and communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels. Fluency in English is essential; Arabic language proficiency is advantageous.
• Problem-Solving and Adaptability: A proactive mindset with the ability to troubleshoot complex issues under pressure. The capacity to adapt to evolving technologies and industry trends is critical.
• Safety and Compliance: A commitment to maintaining the highest safety standards and ensuring compliance with local laws and Marriott’s global policies.
