Position Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Monitoring Survey Manager to lead the survey and structural monitoring activities for the Riyadh Metro Project in Saudi Arabia. Reporting directly to the Project Director or Engineering Manager, this critical role is responsible for ensuring the precise monitoring of tunnels, stations, viaducts, depots, adjacent structures, utilities, and critical infrastructure throughout both the construction and operational phases. The ideal candidate will demonstrate exceptional technical leadership, a deep understanding of advanced monitoring technologies, and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of accuracy, safety, and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Survey & Monitoring Management
The Monitoring Survey Manager will be tasked with developing and implementing comprehensive survey and structural monitoring strategies, procedures, and methodologies tailored to the project’s unique requirements. This includes establishing and maintaining robust horizontal and vertical control networks across all project corridors. The role encompasses the management of geodetic, topographic, deformation, settlement, and structural monitoring activities, ensuring the accurate installation, commissioning, and maintenance of monitoring instruments and survey control points. Additionally, the position involves overseeing the monitoring of tunnels, stations, retaining walls, viaducts, bridges, track structures, adjacent buildings, roads, and utilities to safeguard project integrity and public safety.
Technical Leadership & Expertise
As a technical leader, the Monitoring Survey Manager will guide a multidisciplinary team comprising survey engineers, monitoring engineers, surveyors, and technicians. This role requires reviewing and approving monitoring plans, survey methods, technical reports, and monitoring results to ensure alignment with project specifications, contractual obligations, and international standards. The successful candidate will provide expert guidance on precision surveying techniques and deformation analysis, driving innovation and efficiency in all monitoring activities.
Data Analysis, Reporting & Risk Management
The Monitoring Survey Manager will be responsible for continuously monitoring and analyzing movement, settlement, displacement, and structural behavior data. By evaluating monitoring trends, the role will identify potential risks that could impact project assets or third-party structures, enabling proactive mitigation strategies. The position involves preparing and presenting detailed monitoring reports, dashboards, and technical recommendations to project management and stakeholders. Establishing clear alert levels and escalation procedures for abnormal movements or structural concerns will be a critical aspect of this role.
Stakeholder Coordination & Collaboration
Effective coordination with construction, design, geotechnical, tunneling, civil, and rail systems teams is essential. The Monitoring Survey Manager will liaise with client representatives, consultants, authorities, and subcontractors to ensure seamless alignment on monitoring requirements and results. This role will also support engineering investigations by providing accurate survey data for design verification and construction validation, fostering a collaborative and transparent working environment.
Quality, Safety & Compliance
Upholding the highest standards of quality, safety, and compliance is a cornerstone of this position. The Monitoring Survey Manager will ensure adherence to project HSE requirements and safety regulations, implementing rigorous quality assurance and quality control procedures for all survey and monitoring activities. Conducting regular audits and inspections to verify the accuracy and reliability of survey data and monitoring systems will be a priority. Additionally, maintaining meticulous calibration records for all survey and monitoring instruments will be required to ensure data integrity.
Technology & Systems Management
The role demands expertise in managing advanced monitoring technologies, including Total Stations, GNSS/GPS Systems, Digital Levels, Automatic Monitoring Systems (AMS), Inclinometers, Tiltmeters, Settlement Monitoring Systems, Vibration Monitoring Equipment, Track Monitoring Systems, Laser Scanners, and UAV Survey Systems. The Monitoring Survey Manager will ensure seamless data integration with project databases and monitoring software platforms, leveraging technology to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
Requirements
Qualifications & Experience
- Education: A Bachelor’s Degree in Survey Engineering, Geomatics Engineering, Geodesy, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline is required. A Master’s Degree in a relevant field is considered an advantage.
- Experience: Minimum of 10-15 years of experience in surveying and monitoring for large infrastructure projects, with at least 5 years in a managerial or lead role. Proven experience in metro, railway, tunneling, or major transportation projects is essential. Hands-on experience managing automated monitoring systems and deformation monitoring programs is highly desirable.
- Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of precision surveying, geodetic control networks, and deformation monitoring is required. Proficiency in survey and monitoring software such as Leica GeoMoS, Trimble 4D Control, and AutoCAD Civil 3D is necessary.
