Assistant Consultant - Internal Medicine & Hematology

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Assistant Consultant in Internal Medicine & Hematology to join our dynamic telemedicine team. In this pivotal role, you will deliver comprehensive, evidence-based medical care to adult patients, addressing a wide spectrum of general internal medicine conditions alongside specialized hematological disorders. Your expertise will be instrumental in diagnosing, managing, and coordinating care for complex and undifferentiated presentations, ensuring optimal patient outcomes through a multidisciplinary approach. Key Responsibilities

The Assistant Consultant will be responsible for the following core functions:

• Patient Consultations and Management:
  • Conduct thorough telehealth consultations, including detailed history-taking and systematic review of systems, for adult patients presenting with general medical and hematological concerns.
  • Assess, diagnose, and manage a broad range of acute and chronic conditions across multiple organ systems, including cardiovascular, respiratory, endocrine, metabolic, gastrointestinal, renal, infectious, and rheumatological disorders.
  • Evaluate and manage the full spectrum of benign and malignant blood disorders, such as anemias, iron and other hematinic deficiencies, hemoglobinopathies, bleeding and coagulation disorders, thrombocytopenia, thrombophilia, and hematologic malignancies (e.g., leukemias, lymphomas, myeloma, and myeloproliferative/myelodysplastic conditions).
  • Order and interpret a comprehensive array of general and specialized investigations, including complete blood counts, peripheral blood films, coagulation profiles, hemolysis screens, hemoglobin electrophoresis, bone marrow examination reports, metabolic and biochemical panels, and relevant imaging results.
  • Develop and implement personalized, evidence-based treatment plans that encompass medication management, chronic disease control, anticoagulation therapy, transfusion planning, specialty referrals (e.g., cardiology, endocrinology, nephrology, oncology, or bone marrow transplant services), and lifestyle modifications.
  • Initiate, adjust, and monitor pharmacological and hematological therapies, ensuring ongoing care for chronic and acute conditions based on clinical outcomes and patient feedback.
  • Collaborate seamlessly with primary care physicians, medical subspecialists, oncologists, transfusion medicine specialists, laboratory professionals, and nursing teams to deliver coordinated, high-quality patient care.
  • Engage in population health management by identifying and addressing medical and hematological health issues at the community level, implementing preventive strategies, and promoting health education and awareness.
  • Maintain meticulous and accurate documentation of patient findings, diagnoses, treatment plans, and follow-up care in electronic health records.
• Quality Assurance and Compliance:
  • Communicate effectively with patients and their families, providing clear, compassionate, and concise explanations of diagnoses, treatment options, and follow-up care plans.
  • Adhere rigorously to all relevant medical regulations, ethical guidelines, and quality assurance standards governing both in-person and telehealth practice.
  • Stay abreast of the latest clinical guidelines in internal medicine and hematology, as well as evolving telehealth regulations and best practices.
  • Participate actively in quality improvement initiatives, research activities, and clinical audits to enhance patient care and drive continuous improvement.

Qualifications and Competencies

To excel in this role, candidates must possess the following qualifications and skills:

• Board certification or eligibility in Internal Medicine and Hematology, with a strong foundation in general internal medicine and subspecialty expertise.
• Proven experience in telemedicine, with a demonstrated ability to deliver high-quality care in a virtual setting.
• In-depth knowledge of evidence-based medicine, clinical guidelines, and diagnostic and therapeutic protocols for both general internal medicine and hematology.
