Role Overview

The SQL Database Administrator will play a critical role in managing, maintaining, and optimizing SQL databases that underpin the organization’s core business applications and services. This full-time, on-site position is based in Riyadh and requires a proactive approach to database administration, including daily performance monitoring, issue resolution, and ensuring maximum availability and data integrity. The successful candidate will be responsible for configuring and maintaining robust database security protocols, executing backups and recovery procedures, managing user access, and applying system patches and upgrades. Collaboration with development, infrastructure, and support teams is essential to design and implement efficient database solutions, optimize query performance, and facilitate seamless deployments. Additionally, the role involves documenting database configurations and operational procedures, participating in incident response efforts, and contributing to the enhancement of database standards and industry best practices.

Key Responsibilities

• Database Administration: Install, configure, and maintain SQL Server environments to ensure optimal performance, security, and reliability.
• Performance Optimization: Analyze and tune database performance through query optimization, index management, and resource allocation to enhance system efficiency.
• Backup and Recovery: Develop and implement comprehensive backup strategies, disaster recovery plans, and high-availability solutions, including clustering, replication, and Always On configurations.
• Security Management: Enforce database security policies, manage user access controls, and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
• Automation and Scripting: Utilize T-SQL, PowerShell, and other scripting tools to automate routine administrative tasks and improve operational efficiency.
• Collaboration and Support: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including developers, infrastructure engineers, and support staff, to design database solutions, resolve technical issues, and support application deployments.
• Documentation and Compliance: Maintain accurate documentation of database configurations, procedures, and incident reports to ensure transparency and adherence to best practices.
• Troubleshooting and Monitoring: Proactively monitor database systems using advanced tools and logs to identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, errors, and security vulnerabilities.

Qualifications and Skills

To excel in this role, candidates must possess the following qualifications and competencies:

• Technical Expertise: Strong proficiency in SQL Server administration, including installation, configuration, and maintenance, with hands-on experience in enterprise environments.
• Performance Tuning: In-depth knowledge of query optimization, index management, and database tuning techniques to maximize system performance.
• Disaster Recovery: Experience in designing and implementing backup, restore, and high-availability solutions to ensure business continuity and data protection.
• Security and Compliance: Solid understanding of database security principles, user access management, and compliance frameworks to safeguard sensitive information.
• Scripting and Automation: Familiarity with T-SQL, PowerShell, or similar scripting languages to automate administrative tasks and streamline operations.
• Database Design: Knowledge of database design principles, normalization techniques, and collaboration with development teams on schema modifications.
• Problem-Solving: Exceptional analytical and troubleshooting skills, with a keen attention to detail and the ability to resolve complex technical issues efficiently.
• Education and Experience: A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience in database administration.
• Soft Skills: Strong communication abilities to articulate technical concepts clearly, collaborate effectively in team environments, and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement.
• Certifications: Relevant certifications, such as Microsoft SQL Server or Azure Database Administrator, are considered advantageous.
