Role Overview: Lean Systems Engineer
The Lean Systems Engineer plays a pivotal role in advancing the Lucid Production System (LPS) by spearheading lean manufacturing initiatives across the organization. Reporting to the Lean Systems Manager, this position adopts a hands-on, shop-floor-centric approach to cultivate a robust lean culture and drive continuous improvement in safety, quality, cost, and productivity. The Lean Systems Engineer is responsible for applying core lean methodologies—including problem solving, standardization, waste elimination, and process optimization—to empower operational teams and lead transformative improvement projects. This role collaborates closely with employees at all levels to identify inefficiencies, implement sustainable solutions, and reinforce daily management systems.
The Lean Systems Engineer is instrumental in developing and maintaining lean tools and systems, supporting training initiatives, coaching teams on lean principles, and ensuring alignment with operational performance objectives. Additionally, this position contributes significantly to enhancing safety protocols, resolving production challenges, reducing costs, and elevating vehicle quality through structured continuous improvement initiatives. Ideal candidates will demonstrate strong communication skills, a collaborative mindset, and the ability to influence teams within a dynamic manufacturing environment. The successful professional will be hands-on, data-driven, and deeply committed to fostering a culture of operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure the consistent implementation of Lucid Production System principles across all operational areas.
- Enhance employee engagement in all Lucid Production System programs and initiatives.
- Identify and eliminate roadblocks to continuous improvement across the organization.
- Provide training and coaching to employees at all levels and functions on lean principles and their practical applications.
- Facilitate LPS program review meetings to assess progress and drive accountability.
- Conduct layered audits and process reviews to ensure adherence to lean standards and identify improvement opportunities.
- Lead and support departmental Gemba walks to observe processes, engage with teams, and gather real-time insights.
- Monitor departmental performance, analyze data, and pinpoint focused opportunities to reduce costs, enhance productivity, utilization, and quality.
- Support manufacturing initiatives to ensure factory performance objectives are met across all key performance indicators.
- Develop, implement, and maintain lean tools, systems, and procedures, with a current focus on problem solving, performance management, continuous improvement, 6S (5S plus Safety), and standardization.
- Champion regular Kaizen workshops with cross-functional teams to implement continuous improvement opportunities and drive measurable results.
- Leverage Business Process Automation tools to monitor operational performance and ensure data-driven decision-making.
- Manage work instruction software, ensuring standard compliance, authoring necessary changes, and maintaining version control.
Skills and Qualifications
- Proven experience working in an automotive OEM environment is required.
- Demonstrated experience in automotive manufacturing continuous improvement, with a preference for candidates with direct lean role experience.
- Comprehensive understanding of lean manufacturing principles, combining theoretical knowledge with practical, hands-on application.
- Strong motivation and exceptional interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
- Proven ability to coach and mentor teams, fostering a culture of learning and improvement.
- Analytical mindset with proficiency in data analysis to identify trends, root causes, and improvement opportunities.
- Experience with lean tools such as Kaizen, 5S/6S, standardized work, value stream mapping, and problem-solving methodologies (e.g., A3, PDCA).
- Familiarity with Business Process Automation tools and work instruction management systems.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment with a focus on results and continuous improvement.
