We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Field Engineer III – Managed Pressure Drilling (MPD) to join our dynamic team at Weatherford in Saudi Arabia. In this critical role, you will be responsible for overseeing and executing MPD operations, ensuring optimal performance, safety, and efficiency in high-pressure drilling environments. The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical background in MPD systems, a commitment to operational excellence, and the ability to thrive in challenging field conditions. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge projects while advancing your career in the oil and gas industry.

Key Responsibilities

Coordinate with drilling teams, engineers, and field personnel to optimize drilling performance and minimize non-productive time (NPT).
  • Technical Expertise: Apply advanced knowledge of MPD techniques, including constant bottomhole pressure (CBHP), pressurized mud cap drilling (PMCD), and dual-gradient drilling, to troubleshoot issues and enhance operational efficiency. Monitor real-time data to make informed decisions and adjustments during drilling activities.
  • Equipment Management: Oversee the setup, calibration, and maintenance of MPD equipment, including rotating control devices (RCDs), choke manifolds, and automated control systems. Ensure all systems are functioning optimally and comply with regulatory and company standards.

Foster strong collaborative relationships to ensure project success and client satisfaction.
  • Compliance and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of MPD operations, including daily reports, equipment logs, and incident documentation. Ensure compliance with internal policies, industry regulations, and environmental standards. Report key performance indicators (KPIs) and operational metrics to management as required.
  • Training and Development: Mentor junior engineers and field personnel, providing training on MPD best practices, safety procedures, and technological advancements. Stay abreast of industry trends and innovations to continuously improve operational methodologies.

Qualifications and Skills

To excel in this role, candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. Advanced degrees or certifications in MPD, drilling engineering, or well control are highly desirable.
  • Experience: Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in MPD operations, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or leadership role. Prior experience in onshore or offshore drilling environments within the oil and gas industry is essential.
  • Technical Proficiency: In-depth knowledge of MPD systems, well control principles, and drilling hydraulics. Familiarity with industry software for real-time monitoring, data analysis, and equipment simulation is required.
  • Certifications: Valid IWCF or IADC Well Control certification. Additional certifications in MPD, HUET (Helicopter Underwater Escape Training), or other relevant safety programs are advantageous.
  • Soft Skills: Exceptional problem-solving abilities, strong communication skills, and the capacity to work effectively under pressure. Demonstrated leadership qualities and a commitment to safety and operational integrity are critical.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to work in demanding field conditions, including extreme temperatures, remote locations, and extended shifts. Willingness to travel as needed to support operational demands.
